Suzi Q by Australian Director Liam Firmager charts the professional career of Detroit-born, UK-based singer / songwriter / bassist / bandleader / actor / poet Susan Kay Quatro. The first female-rocker to break into the mainstream and the rightful Queen of Rock n Roll.
Before Suzi Quatro burst onto the music scene in 1973, there were almost no women in rock, and absolutely none who played bass, sang lead vocals, led the band, rocked out and reached millions of people around the world. Suzi Quatro re-wrote the rule book for the expected image of women in rock.
4.5 years in the making, filmmakers Firmager and Tait Brady (Producer) were fuelled by a sense that Suzi's trailblazing status hasn't been sufficiently recognised by the music industry - especially in her native USA. Along the way, Suzi Q became a revisionist history of women in rock, and an intimate insight into a driven, ageless performer.
In Suzi Q the price paid for success is revealed in a deeply personal exploration of fame, ambition, ego and resilience. With unlimited access to Quatro and contributions from collaborators, family and those she has inspired, the film documents both Suzi's personal life and a remarkable 53 years on the road.
Talent featured in the film includes Alice Cooper, Deborah Harry, Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads), Joan Jett and Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler, KT Tunstall, Australian-born record-producer/songwriter Mike Chapman, numerous members of the very musical Quatro family and many more.
